Lessons

I teach wood turning classes at my workshop in Otisville, Michigan.  Most of the classes are either one on one as private lessons or small group instruction.  I have two wood lathes so class sizes are always small.  I do my best to work around your schedule.  Contact me to set up a date and time that works best for you.  Bring a friend and save (see below).

I teach the following classes in woodturning:

1.  Beginning Bowl Turning - (MOST POPULAR) No experience necessary

2.  Beginning Pens and Bottle Stoppers - No experience necessary

3.  Natural Edged Bowls - Bowl turning experience needed

4.  Hollow Forms - Bowl turning experience needed

5.  Intermediate Bowl Turning and Coring - Bowl turning experience needed

All classes are a minimum four hours at $50/hour per person ($200) plus a $15 fee for materials.  Beginning classes can usually be completed in 4 hours.  More advanced sessions can often take extra time.  Additional instruction after the first  four hours is $50/hour.  Most of the time my students get to leave with a completed project.

SPECIAL:  Bring a friend.  If you and a friend take the class together the cost is reduced to $175 each (instead of $200) and the time is extended to 6 hours of instruction.

The most popular class that I teach is Beginning Bowl Turning.  You get 4 hours of instruction for $200.  We cover the following:  safety, the lathe, wood grain orientation, methods of attaching wood to the lathe, sharpening the bowl gouge, using the various cuts of the fingernail ground bowl gouge, finishing, and more.  You will have plenty of time on the lathe and most people leave with a small bowl to keep.  There is a maximum of two people per session for this class.
